•       Tackling tuberculosis incidence and anti-micro bacterial disease

•       Increasing the health of a community

•       A health promotion resource for children

Types of Resources

Students can be creative in what kind of resource they produce. It CANNOT however be a poster. What is important is the quality of the resource and the ability of it to convey messages that the individual or group will retain.  When thinking about creating your resource consider what you did and did not find useful when evaluating your app and what information you retained and why. Resources need to be original and cannot be an adaptation of an existing resource. The resource must be in English even the intention is to translate into another language for the community for which it is aimed. You can however reference real support lines if appropriate. Listed below are types of resources you may consider but this is not limited, and creativity and originality are encouraged: –

·         Leaflet/booklet which is illustrated

·         A podcast or video which must be accompanied by a written transcript – no longer than 5 minutes

·         A game

·         Set of information cards

·         Item of anatomy/resource/piece of equipment to demonstrate your key messages e.g. impact of smoking on lungs

·         Information Board

·         Concept for an app which must include illustrations of the different aspects of the app

·         Storyboards

·         Public Information Broadcast – with written transcript – maximum 5 minutes

·         A short play

·         Rap or poem – no longer than 5 minutes with written transcript

·         Advertisement/Campaign e.g. this could be in the form of a series of electronic images like those you get on public transport

Students need to illustrate in the rationale how the resource will deliver key public health messages to the individual or community group the resource is aimed at. The rationale also needs to outline the basis and reasoning for the resource using evidence to support the submission.  This will include factors such as:

·         What is the public health issue?

·         Why is it important?

·         Who is affected by it and if relevant in what area (use the fingertips tool) ?

·         What research says about the impact of not addressing it

·         Why the method you have used (e.g. the resource you have made) will be effective at getting across the key messages. This needs to include some theory about health promotion

·         How will the resource be used/distributed/disseminated as by looking at it this may not be apparent? Eg a play for use in schools, a resource for children in hospital

This is an academic piece of writing and will need to be referenced using LSBU Harvard.  Ensure that you use academic language relating to health and social care. The rationale needs to be descriptive and where appropriate analytical. Reading your work out loud to yourself at the end will help you identify any grammatical errors.

Marking criteria: grid or rubric to be advised

Additional guidance

Guidance for a performance e.g. rap, poem, podcast, video, broadcast

·         Introduce yourself and the subject you are going to talk about

·         Ensure you position yourself so you and your resource can be seen by the camera. Ensure that the lighting is good, the background plain and there are no background distractions

·         Project your voice as much as you can, speak clearly

·         Think about the language you are using in relation to the audience it is aimed at

·         Know your material so you can speak about it without reading word for word

·         Think about what are the main points you want to get across to the audience – too much information will confuse the audience and they will lose the essence of the message.

·         Practice delivering your presentation to ensure that you have the timing right and feel confident.
